Re: Dodgers...

I used to be a big Dodger baseball fan '75 through '95. From the Buckner, Garvey, Cey, Lopes era into the Hershiser, Piazza years. I followed them religiously through the International editions of USA Today and on Armed Forces Radio during the four years in the 80's when I lived in Germany. '88 Seri...

Re: What's Your Favorite Sport Team

I follow college football and have to admit I have enjoyed watching Notre Dame flounder for the past years. I think they pulled the trigger too fast on Willingham. A coach needs 5 years to get their program in place. They brought in Weis and he went 19-6 with Willingham's teams, and then 3-9 with hi...

Re: Francis "Butch" Nestor - Rest In Peace - 06-09-44 - 02-27-09

When I met Butch here in Las Vegas with Brenda, his body was already withered and weak from his illness. But his spirits were always high and he handled it all with such grace. I both respect and admire him for that.
I am happy he had Brenda caring for him to the end. Life just isn't fair.

What I got out of 3 yrs in the Army & 20+ months in Vietnam

I'm afraid I can't say the 3 yrs in the Army and 20 + months that I spent in Nam were served out of patriotism. I never did understand our purpose in Vietnam. I was there because I was a under-achieving kid from a poor family with no chance for college, who enlisted in the Army, hoping to learn a tr...

Re: R.I.P. -- Robert Elmer Borders -- My reply

I replied: Hello Kenneth. Yes I believe I recall him. I think he was a company clerk or in supply. He was a big good looking guy (6' 0' to 6.2") with dark hair. I believe this is a photo of him http://www.569th.com/soldiers/freetime/nt_food01.jpg leaning back in his chair on the right. We partied to...

R.I.P. -- Robert Elmer Borders - Headquarters 67-68

I received the following email in October of 2006: Mr. Copeland I would first like to thank you for your and the 569ths service to our country in the Vietnam War. It is appreciated. I am a military historian of different countries and eras. If I could take a moment of your spare time to ask some que...

John Copeland - 569th Carto Platoon -- 1967, 68, 69

Hi everyone, I'm the one who put this website together. I don't have the time to work on it that I would like and no longer can do everything manually like I did in the beginning. My old bio page from 5 years ago is here: http://569th.com/soldiers/carto/bio/j_copeland.shtml This forum is very intera...
